Adam Stetten is part of the Kunga Drummers who accompany the Rhythmic Flow Yoga workshops. He is originally from Wilmington and currently resides in Raleigh, NC. His percussion experience comes from school band and jazz band, punk rock and funk. He devotes his working hours working on energy efficiency and practicing real estate. Adam took his first yoga class from Kristin in 2001.

Dan Martier

Dan Martier is a drummer, vocalist and composer based out of costal Carolina who accompanies the Kunga Drummers and is sought after for his adept handling of a wide range of musical styles. Currently touring as the drummer for TR3 featuring Tim Reynolds, Martier defies categorizing as he drives the groove in TR3 while covering Jazz to Industrial and Funk to Rock.

Heather Metzler, ERYT500

Rebecca Powell-Doherty

Rebecca Powell-Doherty has been studying science and doing research since 2001. She graduated with her B.S. in Biology from NC State University in 2005 and went on for her PhD in Immunology at UNC Charlotte, graduating in 2010. She has over a decade of experience teaching Anatomy and Physiology at the collegiate level, along with other science courses. Somewhere along the way, she fell in love with this yoga stuff, completing her 200-hr teaching training under the direction of Kristin Cooper-Gulak and seeks always to carry the Kunga service approach forward in her teaching and her life. She works daily to balance her yoga world with her scientific one, and has previously conducted translational research on antioxidant therapies for trauma, hemorrhage and inflammation at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Most recently, Rebecca completed her Master of Public Health, along with certifications in Global Planning & International Development and Nonprofit & NGO Management at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. She is currently enrolled in the clinical herbalism path with The Herbal Academy of New England and runs her own small business, Diventare Yoga & Apothecary out of her home. She and her husband have recently relocated to the UK in search of new adventures.

Hilary Garivaltis, AHC, RYT

Founder and Director of Ayurvedic Health Education Services. Hilary has trained and taught the introductory levels of Ayurvedic medicine since 2000. As the Founder and former Dean of the Kripalu School of Ayurveda, Hilary had the opportunity to work along side many of the leading teachers of Ayurveda throughout the country and in India. She has been responsible for educating hundreds of people from all walks of life. Through her unique experience she has honed the skills of curriculum refinement to meet the needs of the new student as well as the advanced student. In the spirit of collaboration and upliftment of the Ayurvedic community, Hilary has always been known for building great partnerships both in America and India. The faculty chosen to teach the Fundamentals of Ayurveda: Tools for Healthy Living™ are among the best that Hilary has had the opportunity to work with over the course of the past ten years. Additional adjunct faculty will continue to be included as the curriculum naturally grows.

David Emerson, E-RYT, TCTSY-F

Dave is the Founder and Director of Yoga Services for the Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute in Brookline Massachusetts, where he coined the term “trauma-sensitive yoga”. He was responsible for curriculum development, supervision and oversight of the yoga intervention component of the first of its kind, NIH funded study, conducted by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk to assess the utility and feasibility of yoga instruction with severely traumatized adults with PTSD. Mr. Emerson has extensive experience in the instruction of yoga with PTSD in various populations, and has developed, conducted, and supervised yoga groups for rape crisis centers, domestic violence programs, residential programs for youth, military bases, survivors of terrorism, and Veterans Administration centers and clinics. In addition to co-authoring several scholarly articles on the subject of yoga and trauma, Mr. Emerson is the co-author of Overcoming Trauma through Yoga, released in 2011 by North Atlantic Books and Author of Trauma-Sensitive Yoga in Therapy (Norton, 2015). He leads trainings for yoga teachers and mental health clinicians in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Nicole Fitzwater, ERYT500

Nicole grew up in Blacksburg, Va. She attended the University of Virginia, and after 15 years of living away from the New River Valley has returned home to her roots and her and her husband purchased In Balance Yoga in the summer of 2013 from founder Becky McDaniel Crigger. Nicole has been a yogini since January 2006 and has practiced in studios all over the country and even internationally, focusing on the Bikram, Barkan, Baptiste, Ashtanga and Dharma Yoga traditions. Nicole studied with D’ana Baptiste for two years at Centered City Yoga in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2007 and 2008.

She completed her:
• Foundational 200 Hour with Becky McDaniel Crigger in 2013
• 500 Hour with Sri Dharma Mittra in NYC at the Dharma Yoga Center, Life of a Yogi program in 2014
• Restorative Yoga Teacher Training with Colleen Dwyer in 2015 & 2016
• Level II and Level III Advanced Hot Yoga with Jimmy Barkan in 2015 & 2016
• Certified in First, Second, and Advanced Degree Reiki with Nicola-Jayne Aymes, International Center for Reiki Training and Holy Fire from 2014 – 2015
• Reiki for Animals with Nicola-Jayne Aymes in 2015
• Advanced Art of Assisting with Baptiste Yoga in 2015
• Will complete her 300 Hour with Jimmy Barkan in the Barkan Method in October 2017

​Before becoming the Owner of In Balance Yoga, Nicole worked in development with both Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia for 5 years, 7 years in sports marketing with CBS Sports (University of Maryland, Virginia, LSU, Utah and corporate) and advertising with BBDO New York. Nicole loves to share movement and breath. Yoga helped her find her true self and she hopes to cultivate a community of service at In Balance to impact those in need in the area.
